The first encounter i had in amboseli, almost six years ago now
I had always been desperate to visit Amboseli. The elephants here, I had heard, were calmer than almost anywhere else. Proximity, therefore, was easier to achieve. On our first evening in the national park my guide, Ole Kalama, spotted this lone bull, positioned us 40 yards away and pointed at a patch of grass in front of where I sat. "That's where he's going to eat", he told me. 10 minutes later, he was proved right, and Amboseli instantly became my favourite place.
